How to play 5-Card Pot-Limit Omaha
Omaha with five private cards. You still use exactly two of them with exactly three from the board.
A hand, step by step
- The two players to the left of the dealer button post the small and big blind. Heads-up, the button posts the small blind and acts first before the flop.
- Everyone gets five private cards. Pre-flop betting starts with the player left of the big blind: fold, call or raise.
- The flop: three shared cards face up. Betting starts with the first player still in, left of the button.
- The turn: a fourth shared card, then a betting round.
- The river: a fifth shared card, then the last betting round.
- Showdown: you must use exactly two of your cards and exactly three from the board. The best hand wins the pot; equal hands split it.
Betting
Pot limit: the most you can bet or raise is the size of the pot (counting your call first).
Which hand wins
Standard poker hands, best to worst: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pair, pair, high card.
Tips
- Four of a suit on the board doesn't give you a flush unless you hold two of that suit.
- Hands run much closer than in Hold'em: draw to the best hand (the "nuts").
